SRINAGAR: Gulmarg, the renowned ski destination in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district, witnessed its first light snowfall of the season on Friday.

The Affarwat Gulmarg Mountains received a light dusting of snow, signaling the end of an extended dry spell.

Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir experienced a spell of light to moderate rainfall overnight, with rains lashing both the plains and hills.

An official said that the downpour was accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in some areas.

“The rainfall occurred during the night, continuing into the morning in both Jammu city and Srinagar,” he added. “The weather is expected to improve in the afternoon today, and we don’t expect any significant rainfall until October 5.”

Independent weather forecaster Faizan Arif added, “Today, generally cloudy weather is expected across Jammu and Kashmir, with the possibility of a rain spell in some parts. Sunny breaks are possible in a few areas. Towards night/early morning tomorrow, another rain spell is expected to affect many parts of Jammu and Kashmir, with heavy intensity showers possible in Jammu plains,” he said.

The fresh snowfall in Gulmarg brought a noticeable dip in temperatures, creating a wintry atmosphere in the area. Tourists were spotted delighting in the early snow, capturing the scenic beauty of Gulmarg’s pristine white landscapes. (KNS).
