Music director N P Prabhakaran who is a recipient of the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi award passed away on Thursday night. He was 75. According to sources, Prabhakaran, who was traveling to Thiruvananthapuram by train suffered from chest pain near Thrissur. Though he was rushed to a private hospital by the Railway Protection Force (RPF), his life could not be saved.
Prabhakaran had guided a couple of playback singers, including Sithara Krishnakumar, to the music industry. He had composed music for films like ‘Poonilavu’, ‘Alakananda’, ‘Ival Draupadi’ and ‘Gandharva Rathri’. Prabhakaran who was also very active in political and social circles, had retired as a section officer at Calicut University.
He has composed music for several TV series, albums and dramas.
