Kishtwar – A massive fire broke out in Mulwarwan village of Warwan, Kishtwar district on Tuesday afternoon, destroying 68 houses and leaving many families displaced. According to local authorities, the fire caused extensive damage, forcing residents to seek refuge in makeshift shelters.

Families affected by the blaze are in desperate need of assistance as winter approaches. “It is a very difficult situation. Everything has been burnt… The government should give something and help,” said a local resident who lost his home. Many families are now sheltering under tents provided by the district administration, while others are forced to spend nights on the roads, in fields, or even in the jungle due to the severe cold.

One resident described the chaos, stating, “After 2 o’clock yesterday, this incident happened here. Some people are still in the fields, others on the roads. It’s the winter season, and people cannot stay outside like this.”

An elderly woman, devastated by the loss, added, “I am old, I have a lot of problems. I am in a bad condition. I am not able to sleep. I am very tired.”

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed his concern for the affected families and announced that he will be visiting Warwan today to meet with those who have been displaced by the tragedy. In a post on X, the CM stated, “I’ll be travelling to Warwan, Kishtwar, to meet the families whose lives have been turned upside down by this devastating fire.”

Relief and rehabilitation efforts are underway, with the local administration working to provide temporary shelter and essential supplies to the victims. The government has promised full support to help the displaced families rebuild their homes.

The fire has left the community reeling, and appeals for help continue to be made as the affected families struggle to cope with the aftermath of the disaster.
