Srinagar (Jammu Observer) – With Independence Day just two days away, the Kashmir Valley is under a heightened security blanket. Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, V.K. Birdi, assured the public on Tuesday that a comprehensive security plan is in place to ensure peaceful celebrations.
Addressing the media after a full dress rehearsal for the Independence Day function at Bakshi Stadium, IGP Birdi acknowledged the recent terror activities in the region, including an ongoing operation in Kokernag. He emphasized that a multi-layered security grid has been established to safeguard the Independence Day events.
“We are fully aware of the emerging security challenges,” Birdi said. “All necessary measures have been taken to ensure smooth and peaceful conduct of the Independence Day functions across Kashmir.”
Security forces have been deployed in large numbers, with checkpoints and increased patrolling in sensitive areas. The police have also urged the public to cooperate with the security forces and report any suspicious activity.
As the region prepares to celebrate Independence Day, the security establishment is leaving no stone unturned to maintain peace and order.
