New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday released the eighth instalment of financial benefit under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme to eligible farmers. The prime minister also interacted with beneficiary farmers from several states via video conference.
PM Modi said nearly Rs 19,000 crore has been disbursed to the bank accounts of more than 9.5 crore beneficiary farmer families across the country. He added that farmers in West Bengal have received the benefit for the first time under the scheme.
Over 11 crore farmer families have got Rs 1.35 lakh crore under the scheme till now, added PM Modi.
Today’s disbursement of financial benefit will be the first instalment of PM-Kisan for the ongoing financial year. The seventh instalment under the scheme was released on December 25, 2020.
Under the scheme, a financial benefit of Rs 6,000 per year is provided to eligible beneficiary farmer families. This amount is payable in three equal four-monthly instalments of Rs 2,000.
The scheme was announced by Union Minister Piyush Goyal during the 2019 interim Union Budget. It has cost the government approximately Rs 75,000 crore per annum after coming into effect from December 2019. (With Inputs From India Today)
